Jean-Marc roulot
Meursault
Côte de beaune - Côte d’or - burgundy
Story…
Created in the early 2000’s, Jean-Marc Roulot of Domaine Roulot created a micro-negoçe label under his own name. The wines of his micro-negoçe for the most part are indiscernible from the wines of the domaine say for the label reads Jean-Marc as opposed to Domaine. The main focus here is creating a somewhat extension of the domaine wines, allowing Jean-Marc to work with sites that he does not own plots in under the family estate.
Farming & Philosophy…
Since this label is in many ways an extension of the domaine wines Jean-Marc is extremely critical of his selections that are used for his micro-negoçe project. All of the wines are produced from purchased fruit, not must. In many instances the fruit comes from fermage agreements, where Jean-Marc has the final say in everything from farming practices to pruning to harvest date. So even though he does not farm all the vineyards used under this label, he only selects and works with sites and growers who work at similar standards as he does with his own domaine holdings.
As for the winemaking, it is done exactly as it is with the estate fruit. All the fruit is hand harvested, then delivered directly to Domaine Roulot. Fermentations are done with native yeasts in a mix of stainless steel and barrel, the wines are aged on average around 11 months in barrel, before being transferred to stainless to age on average another 6 months. The wines are then bottled with gentle fining and filtration and no more than about 30 mg/L of free SO2.
vineyards…
The sites vary year to year, although he does hold some more long term contracts for specific holdings. For the most part the vineyards are in cru’s that he does not currently own outright under the domaine holdings, however this is not a always the case. The one wine that is almost always produced under the Jean-Marc label is a Bourgogne Blanc. Outside of that the different bottlings really depend on the year.
